The SteelSeries Rival 500 is a comfortable, functional mouse with lots of customization potential and a reasonable price for all it offers.
The Rival 500 isn't a great mouse, but its innovative thumb layout and the inclusion of haptic feedback are interesting glimpses of the future.
The Steelseries Rival 500 is a decent gaming mouse with some interesting and unique features, but it’s not without a few faults. While the overall design is innovative and intuitive, the build quality leaves much to be desired, and the cord doesn’t inspire confidence.

I’m pleased to say it is a fantastic mouse, and I highly recommend it to those who prefer somewhat bulky mice loaded with buttons, especially those intrigued by the idea of tactile alerts. Even if you don’t use many side buttons, you can disable the bottom two and never use the rest of them. My Rival 500 will be replacing my Corsair M95 until it breaks, or I find an even better rodent. For the moment, however, the SteelSeries Rival 500 is literally a TR Editor’s Choice.
The Rival 500 is a great e-sports oriented mouse, and comes high recommended for that set. While it is more geared towards MOBA and MMO players, the Rival 500 is great feeling mouse that you can use across all titles in your Steam library
My biggest gripe with the SteelSeries Rival 500 is that outside of Gamesense is the mouse doesn’t come preset with popular game presets. Instead, you’re sort of left to your own devices to figure out what system will work best for you. That may not sound like a big deal but for someone who spent as much time in my first week with the Rival 500 tinkering with the profile as I did using it I can say it feels like a lot to ask the consumer. Once it was set up though the Rival 500 performed admirably. It’s not for everyone but if you’re interested in having fifteen buttons are your disposal on your mouse the Rival 500 is a great choice.
Those who live and breath in competitive eSports will definitely want to take a look at the Rival 500 by SteelSeries. It offers a ton of customisable buttons and a useful tactile feedback feature if you want to up your gaming sensory input. If you have smaller hands or are looking for something simpler you might want to check out some other options in the Rival range.
The SteelSeries Rival 500 mouse is comfortable, functional and offered at a reasonable price. It’s used by professional gamers such as LittleBigWhale.
