Recently, the popular Twitch star DrDisrespect has signed for an animated TV show with multi-platform production company Skybound Entertainment, creators of the Walking Dead.
Guy Beahm, commonly known to the rest of the world as DrDisrespect, is reportedly teaming up with Skybound Entertainment to create a TV series based on his online persona.
Many other streamers have landed themselves large-scale deals, but Doc would be the first to create narrative content that’s based through his own streaming story.
It is the first of its kind for a Twitch personality!
Doc has been streaming on Twitch since 2015, playing titular games such as Call of Duty, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), H1Z1, and Apex Legends.
He has garnered 3.8 million followers on his Twitch channel as of writing.
With his iconic over-the-top persona complete with a black wig, mustache, and sunglasses – this look became a well-established branding in the gaming industry.
In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Beahm explains:
“We are pretty early in terms of the creative and the direction we want to take it… [but mentions they’ve had] some early discussions around animation.”
Skybound co-founder and CEO David Alpert believes that DrDisrespect is the largest figure to ever be in the video game space in the history of the world. The idea of an animated series would just be a bit of on-brand marketing for the character’s braggadocio persona.
“There are lots of incredibly talented streamers, but there’s something special about what Guy has done in creating this character… We really believe there’s a unique world around the doctor.”
The show will reportedly focus on the journey behind how “the doctor became the doctor”, and a rich backstory featuring DrDisrespect’s character.
However, the said series is still in its early creative stages and does not have a network yet.
Beahm himself has also expressed his desire for consistency during the creative process, as he doesn’t want to “lose the authenticity of the character.”
While he is the current focus on the TV show, he also noted that there could be opportunities to delve into other media as well such as Skybound’s work in games and comics, among other things.
Most fittingly, DrDisrespect’s goal is similar to that of his character:
“World domination, baby!”
