Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys, Twitch’s #1 female streamer, explained why she opts to keep her dating life private from her audience, as it helps create a “divide” between her work and personal life.
Maintaining a healthy boundary between one’s identity as an online personality and personal life is important for many established content creators.
In case you missed it, Pokimane’s dating life or apparent lack thereof, has always been a hot topic in the Twitch community and across social media channels.
Some say Poki has her own army of Simps, willing to defend her every action. There’s also those who believe she’s keeping her dating life a secret to rake in more subscriptions and donations.
After all, any female Twitch streamer who happens to be single would always attract a wider audience compared to those who are known to be in an exclusive relationship.
While there’s not much personal clarification from Anys about her dating life, she continues to keep the details as private as it could get.
Apology video?
She addressed the issue once more in an apology video uploaded on August 18, saying that she prefers to continue maintaining that way.
Pokimane spent most of the video apologizing for her controversial conduct in the past, while dropping some ideas about her planned future content.
Another thing that her audience won’t be seeing from the streamer is any detail about her dating life.
“I personally made the decision seven years ago when I got into streaming that I don’t want my personal life to be part of my content,”
“That’s what I’m going to stick by until I, or whoever I’m dating, at whatever time, decides otherwise.”
She later shared a clip from an old video in February 2019, where she explained the possible after effect if she made her dating life public.
Either people would swarm over her, by feeding her advice if she was single or criticizing her partner if she was in a relationship— and it seems like Pokimane does not want to deal with any of that.
“In general, relationship stuff is stuff that I don’t like to talk about outright. Even when I’m single, imagine how many people would care. Then, if I got into a relationship, even more people would be invested in what is going on in my relationship. If I had a relationship, I’d want it to just be between me and that person, and not a million people giving their opinion.”
Keeping details about her personal life private from fans helps the Twitch star divide her real life from her work life.
While Pokimane continually lives in the public eye, there’s some aspects about her life that she isn’t comfortable sharing with fans.
“For me, this also creates a healthier divide between my work life and my personal life — which is an area where the lines are already pretty blurred.”
“I understand some people want to relate this to donations, but you could also argue one could make a lot of money by publicizing a relationship or making content out of it.
“Neither of these are wrong… I just personally feel that everyone has a right to privacy. I personally want to experience my relationships without the scrutiny of an online audience.”
Pokimane recently announced a month-long hiatus from her streaming activities, citing current events and other personal concerns as reasons.
In a rather personal tweet, she explains how she’s been feeling burnt out lately due to the current state of the world and the pandemic still posing a threat to many.
