Twitter released the most talked about topics and personalities of 2019 in the Gaming industry!
The most talked-about game of 2019 is a 4-year-old mobile game called Fate/Grand Order, boasting the most active gaming community on the platform and a lot of fans sustaining the game’s hype through the years.
This is the second year in a row that the titular Japanese mobile RPG topped Twitter’s list.
More than a billion tweets about gaming were posted during the past year, which is roughly 20 percent more than 2018.
Japan Twitter’s conversations and tweets on Fate/Grand Order led the way for the game to remain on the number 1 spot, beating the worldwide title Fortnite.
Accordingly, Japan topped Twitter metrics again for the year. It is considered as the top country who tweeted the most about gaming, followed by the United States and Korea.
The global head of gaming partnerships at Twitter, Rishi Chadha, shared his insights with The Washington Post:
“Twitter’s popularity in Japan continues to play a role in what games people talk about locally and globally.”
“The fandom from the region continues to drive conversation around many of the most tweeted about games in the world, showcasing that video games truly have no borders.”
Chadha expects Japan to further influence the gaming conversation in 2020. This January, the legendary fighting game tournament EVO will be held in Tokyo and the Intel Open World will precede the Tokyo Olympics in the summer. There will also be the Tokyo Game Show in the fall.
FaZe Clan was celebrated as the most tweeted about esports team for 2019 and the League of Legends Worlds Championship was the most talked about esports event.
Ninja dominated the list as the most-talked about gaming icon. The ex-Twitch superstar made the move to the rival platform Mixer last year, prompting a few other streamers (Shroud, King Gothalion, CouRage) to jump ships as well.
