Pokimane answers calls for her Twitch ban, after accidental NSFW click on-stream

Many Twitch users have rallied for Pokimane to be banned on the platform following her accidental Pornhub incident.

Considered as Twitch’s number one female platform, it wasn’t a surprise to know the system is ready to let the incident just pass and forget it even happened just recently.

But, plenty continue to take out their cries for fairness across online communities because it’s only fair to do so.

Twitch’s system is infamous for automatically handing out a ban, or at least a suspension, to some small streamer who may have done the same ‘accidental’ mishap as Poki.

A NSFW on-stream accident

On May 19, the Twitch star was doing her usual reaction streams when she unwittingly opened a graphic PornHub tab.

Poki was quick to close the tab as if on reflex, and later explained that someone could have infiltrated the private Google Doc  filled with approved user-submitted links for her to watch on stream.

Still, many calls were raised for her to be suspended on Twitch for showing pornography on a live broadcast.

Under Twitch’s official guidelines on sexually suggestive content, it involves (but is not limited to):

“Posting, displaying, or sharing erotica, including detailed descriptions of sex acts or pornography”

For that reason alone, the Twitch star with over 4.8 followers on the platform should be banned or suspended for technical purposes.

Double standards

Twitch users collectively agree that Pokimane shouldn’t be exempted from the platform’s strict regulations and guidelines.

In the past, fellow female streamers such as Amouranth and Alinity have been suspended on the platform for acts of ‘nudity’.

Content creator Scarce, who hosts a YouTube news channel, even suggested that no one should get banned on Twitch for nudity if Pokimane doesn’t get any sanction for it.

“If pokimane doesn’t get banned, then no one on twitch should get banned for accidentally showing nudity. I see streamers getting banned weekly for this though. Why is there such a blatant double standard? Just make it so streamers don’t get banned if it’s clearly an accident.”

Pokimane speaks up

During her stream a day after the incident, Pokimane confirmed that the platform did send her a warning for what happened.

She claims she has been streaming for years and has had issues before, but it doesn’t lead to a ban on her behalf because it doesn’t happen often enough.

“But yeah, they definitely do give you a warning.”

“They’re like, ‘You have to be really careful about that kind of stuff.’ I’ve definitely had issues like that in the past, too. It’s just that I’ve been streaming for so long that it’s not very frequent — or it’s not frequent enough to lead to a ban.”

If Twitch were to ban her channel though, Poki claims she would “understand” given that she has “messed up in the past.”

She also spoke about the alleged double standards of the situation, which hints that because she’s female, she’s considered an “untouchable” star on the platform.

Poki claims a famous male streamer had done the same thing just recently, who also wasn’t banned or suspended.

“Just so you guys know, it’s not the vagina! Literally yesterday, me and Connor both accidentally leaked something.”

Regardless, many Twitch users continue to question the platform’s decision to let Poki’s NSFW on-stream mishap just pass like that.
